St. Sylvester School's Christmas Concert Success
Congratulations to our students for their beautiful concert! Last Sunday, each grade performed multiple songs-- singing and playing instruments-- for a standing-room only crowd. I was very impressed with the work many students put in so that they could give their very best up on stage. And I was very proud of everyone. Thank you to those parents who gave extra help with set-up and programs. The whole experience reminded me I am so fortunate to be a part of St. Sylvester School, and I look forward to more musical adventures to come. May you, your families and friends have a wonderful Christmas!

Choir will sing O Holy Night and put a little spin on Joyful, Joyful
Choir! I hope you have all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends! Here are your concert song lyrics and links to videos. Remember, our version of Joyful Joyful will be just a little different than the video here. BUT, if you can get their version down, you will have no problem with ours. Also, remember to find your favorite version of "O Holy Night" to share with the group. See you soon!
O HOLY NIGHT (Choirs)
O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night
Of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt His worth
A thrill of hope
The weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine, oh night, oh night divine
Chains shall He break
For the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy
In grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy name
Christ is the Lord, let ever ever praise Thee
Noël, Noël
Oh night, Oh night divine
Noël, Noël
Oh night, Oh night divine
Noël, Noël
Oh, oh night, oh night divine
Joyful Joyful (Choirs-gospel version)
Verse 1 (first time in traditional style, 2nd time gospel style)
Joyful, Joyful
Lord, we adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before
Thee
Hail Thee as the sun above
Melt the clouds of-- sin and
sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us
Fill us with the light of day
Light of day!
(REPEAT Verse 1)
Verse 2
All thy works with joy surround
thee,
earth and heaven reflect thy
rays,
stars and angels sing around
thee,
center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and
mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing
fountain,
call us to rejoice in thee.
Bridge
Come and join the chorus
The mighty, mighty chorus
Which the morning stars begun
The Father of love is reigning
over us
Break
Joy to the World
The Lord is come!
Let Earth receive its king!
Last Verse
Joyful, Joyful
Lord, we adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before
Thee
Hail Thee as the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and
sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us--- Fill us with the light
of
Fill us with the light of
Fill us with the light of day
Light of day!

While shepherds kept their watching
Over silent flocks by night,

There shone a holy light:

That Jesus Christ is born.

That Jesus Christ is born.

3rd Graders are Rocking Some Recorder!
The third graders will make you proud at our 2012 Christmas concert! Here are some lyrics and links to help them get prepared:
Recorder help for Ode to Joy:
TIPS: 1. Practice slowly first. 2. Practice one measure at a time. 3. Remember to shape your mouth like you are saying "dah." 4. If you're recorder is squeaking, you may not be covering the holes all the way or your lips may be too tight-- try relaxing a little.
Here's a video you can play along with-- we only do the beginning parts:

SONG OF THE STABLE
Verse 1
Chill of the nightfall
Lamps in the windows
Letting their light fall
Clear on the snow
Bitter December
Bids us remember
Christ in the stable
Long, long ago
Verse 2
Silence of midnight,
Voices of angels,
Singing to bid night
Yield to the dawn
Darkness is ended,
Sinners befriended,
Where in the stable
Jesus is born
(We are skipping verse 4)
Verse 3
Glory of daybreak!
Sorrows and shadows
Suddenly they break
Forth into morn
Sing out and tell now
All shall be well now
For in the stable
Jesus is born!
Vamos Pastores Vamos
Vamos
pastores vamos, vamos a Belén
a
ver en aquel niño la gloria del Edén
a
ver en aquel niño la gloria del Edén
la
gloria del Edén, la gloria del Edén
Oh
qué precioso niño yo me muero por él
su
boquita me encanta, sus ojitos también
el
padre lo acaricia, la madre mira en él
y
los dos extasiados contemplan aquel ser
contemplan
aquel ser
Si
Vamos
pastores vamos, vamos a Belén
a
ver en aquel niño la gloria del Edén
a
ver en aquel niño la gloria del Edén
la
gloria del Edén, la gloria del Edén
Es
tan lindo el chiquito
que
nunca podrá ser que su belleza copien
ni
el lápiz ni el pincel
pues
el eterno padre con su inmenso poder
hizo
que el hijo fuera inmenso como él
inmenso
como él
Si
Vamos
pastores vamos, vamos a Belén
a
ver en aquel niño la gloria del Edén
a
ver en aquel niño la gloria del Edén
la
gloria del Edén, la gloria del Edén
Harmony strikes in 5th Grade!
The 5th graders have been preparing a recorder part for the Christmas concert. This will be their first time trying to play a two-part piece, with some of the students playing harmony. I am very proud of the work they have done so far. Here are some lyrics to songs they will be singing at our concert and some links to videos of those and one they can play their recorder with.

Los Peces en el Rio
La Virgen se esta peinando
Entre cortina y cortina
Sus cabellos son de oro
El peine de plata fina
Pero mira como beben
Los peces en el rio
Pero mira como beben
Por ver al Dios nacido
Beben y beben
Y vuelven a beber
Los peces en el rio
Por ver al Dios nacer
La Virgen esta lavando
Y tendiendo en el romero
Los angelitos cantando
Y el romero floreciendo
Pero mira como beben
Los peces en el rio
Pero mira como beben
Por ver al Dios nacido
Beben y beben
Y vuelven a beber
Los peces en el rio
Por ver al Dios nacer
La Virgen se está lavando
Con un poquito jabón.
Se le han picado las manos,
manos de mi corazón.
Pero mira como beben
Los peces en el rio
Pero mira como beben
Por ver al Dios nacido
Beben y beben
Y vuelven a beber
Los peces en el rio
Por ver al Dios nacer
