HELP for Junior High Solo/Small Group Parts

Here are lyrics and sample recordings of all the parts available for our junior high soloists and small groups...  [By the way, there were times I had to be more quiet than I would suggest you be, just because of my surroundings while recording. :) ]

6th GRADE ONLY

1. Let it Snow Verse 1 SLOWLY, in your own style:
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
but the fire is so delightful,
and since we've no place to go,
            Let It Snow!
            Let It Snow!
            Let It Snow!

OPEN TO ALL JUNIOR HIGH (except #3)- please do not forget to look at La Marimorena solos...

1. “Hallelujah” Verse 1 first half:
I’ve heard about this baby boy
Who’s come to earth to bring us joy
And I just want to sing this song to you

2. “Hallelujah” Verse 1 second half:
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
With every breath I’m singing Hallelujah

Recording of the piano part so you can practice singing along:

3. CHOIR MEMBERS ONLY-- “Silent Night (Noche De Paz)” in Spanish:
Noche de paz, noche de amor  (Night of peace, night of love)
            Todo duerme en derredor
(All nearby, sleeping tight)
Entre los astros que esparcen su luz
(Among the stars that spead their light)
            Bella anunciando al niño Jesús
 (Beautifully announcing the baby, Jesus)
            Brilla la estrella de paz
 (Shines the star of peace)
            Brilla la estrella de paz
 (Shines the star of peace)

4. “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Verse 1 first half:
Said the night wind to the little lamb,
Do you hear what I hear?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you hear what I hear?

5. “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Verse 1 second half:
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite

With a tail as big as a kite.

6. “La Marimorena” Verse 3 (SING IN SPANISH—English is just the translation):

Una estrella se ha perdido y en el cielo no aparece,  (A star has been lost and does not appear in heaven)
En el portal se ha metido y en su rostro resplandece.
(It is shines on the entrance and on His face)

7. “La Marimorena” Verse 4 (SING IN SPANISH—English is just the translation):

De Oriente salen tres Reyes para adorar al Dios Niño (From the East, 3 Kings leave to adore the God Child)
Una estrella les guiaba para seguir el camino. (A star guides them on their path.)

8. “La Marimorena” Verse 5 (SING IN SPANISH—English is just the translation):

Todos le llevan al Niño yo no tengo que llevarle, (All take things to the Child, I don’t have a thing to take…)
Le llevo mi corazón que en el mundo es lo que vale. (I will take my heart—it is what matters most in the world).

Slower and then faster recording of all three "La Marimorena" verses (I could use more practice):

Next Family Mass is on 11/20-- Here are the Hymns!

Family mass in November is on Sunday, the 20th at 11:30 in St. Sylvester Church.  All school choir members and any children who attend St. Sylvester and would like to are invited to sing!  Here is a list of hymns we will be singing.  They relate to the fact that the 20th is The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.  There are links to recordings of these songs and lyrics listed here, too.  Please practice a bit before 11/20.  Thank you!

Gather Us In
Here in this place
New light is streaming
Now is the darkness vanished away
See in this space
Our fears and our dreaming
Brought here to you in the light of this day.
Gather us in, the lost and forsaken,
Gather us in, the blind and the lame;
Call to us now, and we shall awaken,
We shall arise at the sound of our name.
We are the young--
Our lives are a mys'try [mis-tree]
We are the old-- who yearn for your face
We have been sung
throughout all of his'try [hiss-tree]
Called to be light to the whole human race.
Gather us in, the rich and the haughty
Gather us is, the proud and the lame
Give us a heart so meek and so lowly
Give us the courage to enter the song.
Here we will  take
The wine and the water
Here we will take the bread of new birth,
Here you shall call
Your sons and your daughters
Call us anew to be salt for the earth.
Give us to drink the wine of compassion,
Give us to eat the bread that is you;
Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion
Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Were You There
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh---------- Sometimes
It causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Were you there when they nailed him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree?
Oh---------- Sometimes
It causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble
Were you there when they nailed him to the tree?

*The song continues with this same pattern and different words about the crucifixion of Jesus

All Who Hunger
All who hunger, gather gladly
Holy manna is our bread
Come from wilderness and wand'ring
Here, in truth, we will be few.
You that yearn for days of fullness
All around us, is our food
Taste and see the grace eternal
Taste and see that God is good
Taste and see the grace eternal
Taste and see that God is good.
All who hunger, never strangers;
Seeker be a welcome guest
Come from restlessness and roaming
here, in joy, we keep the feast.
We that once were lost and scattered
In communion's love have stood.
Taste and see the grace eternal
Taste and see that God is good
Taste and see the grace eternal
Taste and see that God is good.
All who hunger, sing together
Jesus Christ is living bread
Come from loneliness and longing
Here, in peace, we have been led.
Blest are those who from this table
Live their days in gratitude.
Taste and see the grace eternal
Taste and see that God is good
Taste and see the grace eternal
Taste and see that God is good.

Jesus, Remember Me
Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.
Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.

Ride on Jesus, Ride
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
Ride on, Jesus, conquering King!
Ride on, Jesus, ride!

King Jesus rides on a milk-white horse
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
The river Jordan he did cross
Ride on, Jesus, ride.
Ride on, Jesus, conquering King!
Ride on, Jesus, ride!

My Jesus lifted his throne above,
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
See his mercy and his love,
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
Ride on, Jesus, conquering King!
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
****we will probably end here by singing what we did at the beginning****
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
Ride on, Jesus, ride!
Ride on, Jesus, conquering King!
Ride on, Jesus, ride!

CHOIR HELP IS HERE!

Hello, Older Choir Memebers!

Here are links to audio of your song parts, including both parts together in the last link listed!
You may notice me singing a little flat now and then-- I should have smiled more and used more breath support... and maybe raised my eyebrows a few times.  This is what I recommend you try, if you feel yourself losing your breath or being "pitchy." :)

*Don't forget to do your HOMEWORK!  Highlight YOUR part and then turn your black folder in to me by Thursday.  If you are interested in trying Part III, highlight it in a different color.

I am so excited to hear you all sing again next week!
We will now begin each choir practice with reading a very short piece of music to continue to feel comfortable with following different parts.  And then we can do some cool new pieces, too.  But, our Christmas piece is quite important, so for now it takes priority.  The more prepared you are, the more we can do!

Thank you,
Ms. Fox

Solo and Small Group Auditions in Junior High Choir

Hey there, Junior High Choir members.  Here is a YouTube recording of "Send Us Your Spirit" that you can use to prepare the verses.  If you'd like to do a solo or get together 2-4 people for a small group, that is great!  I highly encourage you to go for it, if you are at all interested.  You will give it a try during choir next Wednesday.

Great Job, Choir!

I apologize for not sooner recognizing the choir's fantastic performance at Father Sam's installation mass back on February 17th.  They did a wonderful job, both singing up in the loft and dancing on the main floor in front of hundreds of people.  I was so proud of them-- we had never done anything like that before, and I think it was a great step forward.

Our next Family Mass will be on Sunday, March 17th, beginning at 11:30.

Both the younger and older choirs are currently working on pieces appropriate for this season of Lent.  We've most recently been challenging ourselves to sing a Latin hymn in a round.  This is a great exercise for their ears, as well as their voices.

Now and then we check out other choirs' performances online.  One video that has stuck with me is the excellent PS22 5th grade chorus singing "So Small" with Carrie Underwood.  Here is the link:

http://youtu.be/LrOYKV2x_TM

Really, there are so many wonderful videos posted by the PS22 Chorus that you can take your pick-- all of them will put a smile on your face, and you'll probably find yourself checking out many more that one.  I have put a link to their blog on this page in the lower right-hand corner.

CHOIRS WILL SING AT 1:00 TOMORROW FOR SPECIAL MASS

Dear Choir Members and Families,

This Sunday, February 17th, our Family Mass has been moved to 1:00pm, so that our school families can be a part of Father Sam’s special installation mass.  Choir members have been working on a special song in Swahili to sing as part of a warm welcome to our community.  They will be singing, as usual, in the choir loft with some added voices from our adult choir.  And during the presentation of the gifts, they will be singing and doing a little dancing down the aisles of church.  I am hoping you will be able to make it to this special mass at 1:00 this Sunday.

Choir will sing O Holy Night and put a little spin on Joyful, Joyful

Choir!  I hope you have all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends!  Here are your concert song lyrics and links to videos.  Remember, our version of Joyful Joyful will be just a little different than the video here.  BUT, if you can get their version down, you will have no problem with ours.  Also, remember to find your favorite version of "O Holy Night" to share with the group.  See you soon!

O HOLY NIGHT (Choirs)

O holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night
Of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt His worth
A thrill of hope
The weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine, oh night, oh night divine

Chains shall He break
For the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy
In grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy name
Christ is the Lord, let ever ever praise Thee
Noël, Noël
Oh night, Oh night divine
Noël, Noël
Oh night, Oh night divine
Noël, Noël
Oh, oh night, oh night divine

Joyful Joyful  (Choirs-gospel version)

Verse 1 (first time in traditional style, 2nd time gospel style)
Joyful, Joyful
Lord, we adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee as the sun above
Melt the clouds of-- sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us
Fill us with the light of day
Light of day!
(REPEAT Verse 1)

Verse 2
All thy works with joy surround thee,
earth and heaven reflect thy rays,
stars and angels sing around thee,
center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing fountain,
call us to rejoice in thee.

Bridge
Come and join the chorus
The mighty, mighty chorus
Which the morning stars begun
The Father of love is reigning over us
Break
Joy to the World
The Lord is come!
Let Earth receive its king!

Last Verse
Joyful, Joyful
Lord, we adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee as the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us--- Fill us with the light of
Fill us with the light of
Fill us with the light of day
Light of day!
