2nd Graders Have Big Singing Voices!

St. Sylvester's second graders sound wonderful as they practice for our upcoming Christmas concert.  Here are some lyrics and links to use outside of school:
What Child is This?

Verse 1
What Child is this who, laid to rest

On Mary's lap is sleeping?

Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,

While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,

Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;

Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,

The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Verse 2
So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,

Come peasant, king to own Him;

The King of kings salvation brings,

Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
This, this is Christ the King,

Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;

Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,

The Babe, the Son of Mary

This, this is Christ the King,

Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;

Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,

The Babe, the Son of Mary

Pre-K Christmas Concert Preview at Home

Hello!  Pre-K kids are getting in plenty of music practice at school, but just in case you want to get a preview of your child's Christmas concert songs at home:

Ms Barrett's and Ms. Marquez's classes will be singing O Christmas Tree:

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree
 How lovely are your branches
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree
 How lovely are your branches
In summer sun or winter snow
A coat of green you always grow
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree
 How lovely are your branches

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree
 Your gentle spirit teaches us
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree
 Your gentle spirit teaches us
That peace and love will always be
As faithful as a Christmas tree
Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree
 Your gentle spirit teaches us.

Ms. Barrett's and Ms. K's classes will be singing Little Drummer Boy:

Verse1
Come, they told me
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
Our newborn King to see
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
Our finest gifts we bring
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
To lay before the King
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
Rum, pa, pum, pum, rum, pa, pum, pum
So to honor Him
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
When we come

Verse 2
Little Baby
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
I am a poor boy too
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
I have no gift to bring
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
That's fit to give a King
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
Rum, pa, pum, pum, rum, pa, pum, pum
Shall I play for You
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
On my drum

Verse 3
Mary nodded
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
The ox and lamb kept time
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
I played my drum for Him
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
I played my best for Him
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
Rum, pa, pum, pum, rum, pa, pum, pum
Then He smiled at me
Pa, rum, pa, pum, pum
Me and my drum

Ms. K's and Ms. Marquez's classes will sing Away in a Manger:

Verse 1
Away in a manger,
 No crib for His bed
 The little Lord Jesus
 Laid down His sweet head
The stars in the sky
 Looked down where He lay
 The little Lord Jesus
 Asleep on the hay

Verse 2
The cattle are lowing
 The poor Baby wakes
 But little Lord Jesus
 No crying He makes
 I love Thee, Lord Jesus
 Look down from the sky
 And stay by my side,
 'Til morning is nigh.

Family Mass and Christmas Prep

My apologies for not being on here more often so far.  I have a bit of information for each grade and choir today.  First, the next Family Mass is coming up this Sunday, November 18th.  I'm hoping to see many choir members.  Our last performance was excellent.  We received many compliments.  I will post the songs we'll be singing this Sunday by the end of today.  Choir members may have told you that singing at Family Mass earns them a "pizza topping," as does great rehearsals and performances throughout the weekdays.  If we get 100 toppings on the pizza by the end of the second quarter, we will have a pizza party party!

All classes are now preparing for the Christmas concert scheduled for 4:00pm on December 9th.  It should be a fantastic show!  Song lyrics, recorder notes, and links to YouTube videos that can help students learn their songs will be posted here by 11/13.  Students in 2nd grade through 8th have their own copies of lyrics and music that they can use at home but must also have at school for practice.  I recommend trying to practice recorders at home for a total of 50-60 minutes a week-- though, even if students are only able to practice 5 minutes a day, they will get so much better at their instruments.  5 minutes a day!-- not a bad deal at all. :)

Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful week!  Stay tuned for the posts mentioned above.
